Hi guys and girls,

Just a quick post. I have had my beautiful Gen1 Coupe a couple months now and am starting to do/replace a few bits and tweaks here and there and was wondering, as a new coupe owner. Could any of those old school coupe people let me know of common faults and problems that I may incur and should look out for (ie nip em in the bud before they develop) That way I can sort those all out before getting too carried away with flashy mods :)

p.s. the blinking clock is obvious and need not be noted. ;)

Thanks

Rust around the wheel arches and sunroof, manifold cracking, brake calipers seem to be quite a common problem, ABS rings splitting, electric aerial and probably a few more common problems which I've forgotten about!

Overall though, they are a pretty solid and reliable car for their age. Touch wood I've had no real problems with mine despite it being quite a high milage example, although I do take it into the garage for the slightest fault and anything that needs doing tends to get done professionally as I'm pretty hopeless with mechanical stuff and don't trust myself! :lol

Coupe: Other
rust, door actuators, window switches & window motor cables getting tangled, headlights fading, evaporation canister purge valve and solenoid going bad, throttle position sensor going bad, speed sensor wires rusting, ball joints going bad, fuel lines bursting because of cracking, radiator leaks, fuel filter needs changing, wheel bearings need replacing, rear calipers getting stuck, brake lines bursting upon heavy braking. that's pretty much all, O2 sensors need replacing, and that's if you're pushing over 150,000 miles. regular maintenance stuff.

you know, a hyundai is a hyundai. at least the old ones were pretty cheap and lightweight. you can go a long, LONG ways without replacing much or having many problems if you just give her some good care. if you don't, like me, then you'll have to replace the above mentioned.
