Bought this procedure of ebay. £1.49. Have not tried it yet as I am waiting for a new key fob.. hope it works

HYUNDAI
Procedure

1. Remove the lower crash panel and locate the Remote control receiver unit.

2. The switch on the side of the unit should be switched to the SET position.

3. Press the Door lock button or unlock button on the Transmitter quickly.

4. Return the switch to OFF position and then test remote control.

Programming remotes on 16 pin OBD Systems

Procedure

1. Locate the small black box below the steering column for remote function.

2. Remove the small piece of tape to uncover a hole with a switch inside.

3. With the ignition on, move the switch to the "SET" position.

4. Press the button on ALL remotes needed for the vehicle.

5. Return the switch to the "OFF" position.

6. Switch off the ignition and test all remotes.

Hey, I know this is a really old post but I just wanted to ask a few questions about the factory fitted alarm system on a 53 reg 1.6 coupe.

My keyfob is shown below.

When I bought the car second hand, it only came with two keys and one key fob. I wanted to give the misses a key and key fob so she didnt have to run off with my keys any time she wanted to take the coupe instead of the other car.

After finding out that its quite expensive to buy a spare keyfob and get it programmed by a dealer, I thought I was going to get away with buying a key fob off ebay and using the proceedure above for 16 pin OBD sytems to sync the new key fob.

Unfortunatly the first problem Ive found is that there isnt any switch as I can see on my BCM (ETAC) system, unless Ive overlooked it, so Im presuming the proceedure available for older systems on either gen1 or 2???

Ive read in the electrical service manual that if you have a OBD2 reader/writer, certain ones (the manual refers to a highscan) can access the menu to add/reprogram new fobs amongst other cool things.

Being a bit of an enthusiast for electronics, I wouldnt mind getting hold of one of these OBD2 reader/writers and having a go at reprogramming the new fob myself rather that paying a garage or lock smith to do it, then If I ever need to reprogram it again if the battery goes, I can do it myself.

There are many of these readers on ebay going for anything from £25-60, can anyone recommend the correct OBD reader that I need or where I can get one that will access the menu shown in the images ive copied from the manual?

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its not easy finding much about the factory fitted system on coupes due to the third party alarms being fitted randomly to different models.

Not too bothered about exploring the other areas of the diagnostic system bult in to the OBD device, Just want to be able to reprog my own fob and add a new fob for now.

Cheers
