Hi, hope someone can take a moment to help. Been trawling through the post for an answer with no joy! Been running my gen1, R, 2.0SE for 7years and it has never missed a beat until now :

Not starting properly, it takes between 2 and 4 seconds to fire up. It sounds like it turns over fine, no graunching, grinding or spinning starter motor etc. It then fires up (sluggishly) and then runs lovely.

HT leads - tried to isolate the problem by cornering / accelerating in 3rd to put pressure on the ht leads.. Changed the plugs, still does not miss a beat.

Took out the air filter and tried starting, still the same problem.

Ran some injector cleaner and took it for a fast spin at high revs along a short stretch of motorway.. still no joy.

Hopefully I can post the solution very soon.

will probably be crank shaft sensor .
if you put search in here you will fing cheap supplier i think .

That's interesting, think I'll give it a clean. Where would I find this sensor. I have looked at http://www.newtonnet.co.uk/coupe/servic ... 130#_12130 and dont recognize the location.

Do I have to open up the rocker cover or is it on the outside of the engine?

it either the crank shaft sensor or the throttle position sensors

Cant remember which one gives you starting problems

on mine one even worse,sometimes you turn ignition ,and nothing happens,i meen nothing,no sound ,no starter turning,just nothing,and after few minutes sometimes hours its starts and drives perfectli what can it be?

Trevs sounds like a Crank sensor .....


......but yours doesnt Andri?? Strange that nothing happens.....not even a click?

Does the dash display go dim when you try to start it?

yes man ,nothig happens!! not even a sound,you can tur a ignition key as many times as you want but nothing happens...and then i was tryying to push start it,was pushing it with my mate for 20 mins,nothing ,and then tryed to push backwards its tot started,but it strarted from key as nothing happend

I keep thinking about this Andri......haven't come up with anything yet other than a bad earth or battery connection.....but I'll keep thinking..

Oh well back to the drawing board , if you find out what it is , you will have to let us know , just incase it happens to one of us .
