I'm new to this site so firstly hi to all. Secondly I've a 1999 V plate F2 Evo, completely standard, with relatively low mileage (35k), 1 previous (old 50+) owner, in mint condition and I absolutely love it, love driving it, love looking at it, love keeping it clean... I guess you get the point, although I have to tell the girlfriend I love her more.

Unfortunately the other day I heard a very noticeable clicking from my drivers side front wheel. It clicks in time with the rotation of the wheel but if I brake it goes away (well becomes quieter to the point of it hardly being noticeable anyway) until I lift off the brakes again. I should add that if I drive like a grandad (no offence to grandads) it rarely manifests itself. However if I enjoy the drive and put my foot down a little, brake sharpish or corner hard or even go down a steep hill the clicking will start up again.

Can anyone help? Any ideas or general pointers would be really really appreciated since I adore this car and basically want it to stop clicking.

either brake pads are worn have a look both sides on each, if they are low the caliper will catch on the gaurd bit, hence click click squeek etc.

or

check cv gaitor ' boots' this is the joint that rotates from the drive shaft, if the rubber is split the joint is not being lubricated, dryed out and waring out hence a clicking , usualy the outer boot but check them all.

i had this problem when i got my evo,

i noticed on mine it goes away when braking until you release.

check front brake pads x 4 if they are fairly low, change them and this should sort it out. easy cheap fix DIY job.

but better check cv boots also

I wasn't impressed with the first place although they did identify the passenger side front wheel bearing was going. Anyway, I took it to another place and they identified the clicking was caused by one of the pads sticking. They said my discs and pads had plenty of life left so stripped them down, and cleaned everything up. They changed the wheel bearing too... all for £103, I can't complain at that.

Well the clicking seems to have stopped so thanks everyone for your help.
