Ok, so picture the scene, I'm driving on a dual carriage-way, when I see a police car up ahead going in the same direction. He exits the carriageway, as do I, about 10 seconds later, he stops at the lights at the exit of the slip road, which hold him until I get there. We both pull off similarly, and approach a roundabout, only he starts to slow down much earlier than I do, and I brake a bit later but still safely stop in time for the roundabout (very safely!)

I go straight over at the roundabout and he follows me, switches on his lights and pulls me over. I'm now sh****ng myself as I've recently been caught speeding and am about to receive the 3 points for it. And I've not yet been driving for 2 years, so my limit is 6 points.

He spoke to me, and gave me a lecture, saying that I was driving recklessly and I don't need to brake that late. I then explained that I felt I was driving normal, it's my normal driving style and that I safely stopped at the roundabout.

He then starts saying about me being young (18) and driving such a car. Asked me when I got it, and so when I say only about 3 weeks ago, he starts saying about me not being used to the car yet!

I thought this was all absolutely crazy. I braked no later than I would have normally, actually a bit earlier than normal, as I was next to a blooming police car, and then he thinks that just because I'm so young he can give me a lecture about being an inexperienced driver etc etc.

In the end he just sent me on my way with nothing!!!

i swear they do it because they are bored. and then we have community support "failed traffic wardens" god one thing i hate more than useless people in authroity is useless people without authority who think they do

i wouldnt mind it so much if i was in the wrong!

yeah we have the community wardens too. they Never seem to bother anyone though. With the police it's like they have targets or something and when they're down on their sales they pull random people over to try and meet their quotas lol.

When i was younger i got stopped WALKING home at say 10-ish at night a few times, and quizzed about where i'd been what i'd been doing etc and they tried to search me. They had no luck though, with dad being a copper i knew (then at least) a single copper wasn't allowed to search you without probable cause.

Similar that a police car can't stop you for speeding etc if it doesnt have 2 people in it unless it's specifically a traffic car.

No one likes doing it but you are just better off smiling and saying "yes officer/sorry officer etc etc" as if you get smart wiv em or argue the point they will look for any excuse to do you.If they then decide to do you for something then get there number and complain as you then have nothing to lose.

IMO fair play for stopping you. Someone driving a bit recklessly behind a police officer, braking late etc etc just screams pull me over and check me out. 9 times out of 10 they find something else out like drink, drugs, illegal car, 14 year old behind the wheel and the likes.

dont get me wrong, everyone drives in a hurry now and again but whats the harm in the police pulling someone over just to check someone out, if your not breaking the law you have nothing to worry about. After all you would want that to happen to filter out the criminals we have these days, that crash into you and then say "oh i have no insurance"
