I bought the f/l2 grips and handles set and was amazed how simple it was to fit them, thought id make a guide anyway, however I only decided to AFTER id put them on so made one in reverse lol:
first, prise the old door grips away by jamming a thin flat head screwdriver in between the grip front and the part built into the door car, its tricky but with a bit of effort comes off enought to get a grip and PULL:
then remove the 2 screws from behind the door grip, and the 2 inside the door handle recess, pull the handle out and the recess should slide over the handle and off:
at the front of the door card you will find 2 bolts that have plastic covers over them:
get a flat head screwdriver under the centres of these screw covers and pop them off (keep them in a safe place for now):
now remove the screws:
do the same with the 3 screws on the rear edge of the door card:
for ease of removal and refitting, pull the tweeter surround off (no screws, shouldnt be difficult just give a gentle tug and should pop off):
disconnect the wire from the tweeter surround and put to one side:
now grab somewhere underneath the door cars where it meets the door and pull outwards to undo the clips underneath, then pull the door card away. you will see the cables+sockets for the switches, door lights etc, undo these and put the door card to one side:
now to remove the door lock/central locking cables from the door handle. all this involves is lifting a peg out from a plastic cup, and pulling the cables free:
this is achieved easily using a flat head screwdriver under the cable and lifting up, it will come out easily, then pull the little plastic arm towards you to release the cable:
now this is done, pull the thicker part of the end of the cable away and it should unclip from the recess in the door handle mount.
slide the handle towards the front of the door and it should come off easily.
once this is done its a matter of doing the same in reverse, making sure you dont forget any screws/plugs for switches etc.
finished article:
the passenger side i did with the door closed, i just took the grip off, unscrewed the 2 scres on the door handle surround, removed that, removed the cables from the handle (fiddly with the door card still on but do-able), slid it away and removed it, fitted the new handle, put the cables back into the new handle (even more fiddly now, needle nosed pliers are VERY handy) and put surround and grips back on
[note: guide also intended for help when removing door cards to change speakers, wire in footwell lights to come on with door lights when opened, and fitting sound deaddening]
