When doing anything with oil/water weather it be engines gearbox's or diffs i use RTV silicone/ if you go to halfrauds and look at those products you chose then somewhere on the back it'll make reference to it.
never had a problem with it.
one things for sure its certainly not going to make it leak .
But if you have a new gasket might aswell fit it rather than re-using the old one > which asks the question why do you have a new one??

oh btw RTV silicone is about half the price of that loctite stuff plus it comes in a large tube which you can apply with a silicone gun.

Do you think it would be cheaper for me to get the parts and then hand them over for fitting or would the garage get it cheaper?

Hmm well, it depends - garage get it specially discounted, and then whack on their share, but then at the same time, you will have to pay a bit more if you buy it yorself - chances are that it'll be the same/little cheaper direct from the garage.

Also, with cam stuff - dont get the parts yourself - say the belt fails and snaps 300 miles after - it then wont be the garage thats liable, but yoooooou
