Where in the engine bay is this?:


i couldnt spot it after having a nose about? i assume it going to be near the gearbox? is this possibly under the car?

The photo is taken from the side of the car. The red pipe looks like an air intake pipe.
It should be next to the battery , a little lower.

sometimes I have to apply a fair bit of pressure to but my car into 1st gear or reverse (not as often since i got my short shifter). Would this mod help?

reading the guide it says that this mod helps with locating the gears, so maybe it will. i hope to look at doing this on the weekend.

another way of locating the gear linkage is have someone wiggle the gear stick whilst its in gear, you will see the whole damn thing wobbling under the air filter!

i held it steady with my fingers acting as the missing washer, my dad said the gear stick seemed much more solid.

If only I knew the size of the washer I would do it

did this mod took about 20mins, the guide on the main web page is really good and accurate.

my 99 gen1 had the little plastic piece on the gear locator so it was just a case of removing my cracked grommet and replacing it with two washers when i re-assembled.

the whole linkage is so sturdy now, the gears seem to locate better and there is less wobble from the gear stick when it is in gear...

there is still some play in the stick but not as much.

hi mate,

i find lifting the clutch pedal (very slightly, you dont want to launch forward or backwards!) up and down while trying to locate the gear will help it drop into place.

reverse is always i bit of a pain...
