I've done a few sets, and I've always used black Tec-7.

Are there any sealants which are available from B&Q or Wickes (Two stores within easy reach for me, saves waiting for eBay postage) which would do the job?

Also what paint would be best for making the silver bits black?

You can get Tec-7 in B&Q. I think its about a tenner.

Get a can of matt black spray paint if your painting them black

If you’re careful when you take the lights apart and put them back together making sure there’s loads of heat to keep the sealant liquefied there’s no real need to use extra sealant. If you are going to use it make sure its not silicone as it won’t adhere to the existing sealant.

I've heard tigerseal is excellent but it can be a right bitch to get back into your lights!

I've never used tigerseal. I've only ever used tec-7 on headlights. its one of the strongest sealants available but it doesn't 'set' so the headlights are easily re-opened.

I deambered Paul896's headlights and used tec-7 on them. I put angel eyes in a few months later and there was no problem opening them again.

Right, going to pop along to B&Q shortly, will grab some black Tec7 (or their own black kitchen sealant) plus some matt black spray.

Let's just say that's ALL I have... my car, sealant and some spray, what else will I likely be needing, other than the removal tools? Also do any areas need to be masked off? Have seen a few pics of the indicators left with a chrome strip, I assume for reflective purposes?

Quickly violated the local B&Q, couldn't spot any Tec-7, and the rest of their sealants were either white, or silicone based, so balls to them, will grab some stuff off eBay or Halfrauds, not in a major rush to get it done :D

Suprised B&Q didn't have any tec-7 :confused Their main branch in Dublin has a HUGE display of everything in the '7' range. I assumed all the stores would carry the brand.

Get some nail varnish remover. Much cheaper than the paint removal stuff that hardware stores sell. Handy sutff to have in case you get any sealant on the lens. Gets it right off.

The Stafford branch is clearly a bit more useless then. There were some black sealants for guttering, but I didn't think that would do the job.

I may pop into Wickes tomorrow, or take a trawl on ebay later to see what I can find :)
