When I did the EVO rims I:
Gave them a bloody good wash with Fairy Liquid, not car wash stuff cuz it leaves a residue.
Filed down any major kerbing to the rim.
Filled the H logo on the spokes and some scratches with P38, sanded back to smooth.
Gave them another bloody good wash and left overnight to dry
Gave them 2 coats of High Build primer, sanding back with 1200grit between coats.
Yet another bloody good wash with Fairy Liquid and left overnight to dry.
Wipe over with PanelWipe, allow to dry - don't breath the fumes or you'll get high
THEN IT'S PAINT TIME!
Spray the back of the wheels first, I used matt black for this cuz I had some handy. I didn't do a thorough job on this, the EVO design is such that it's not that visible. Splash'n'dash, like.
Then it's just a case of applying as many coats of Halfords Satin Black as you like to the fronts - make them nice even thin ones, and leave plenty of time between coats. Rotate the wheels 45 degrees before applying a fresh coat, that'll make sure you get full coverage of the spokes etc. I never bothered with laquer in the end, doesn't show up the brake dust as bad and makes for easy refinishing
Then just leave 'em to cure fully, 48hrs is best and don't forget a film of Copperslip to the hub. Stops the paint bonding them to the brake rotor - refit and enjoy
End result ...
