I am faced with a choice between an auto or a 6-speed V6 Coupe Gen-3.

I was heading for the auto because I'd heard horror stories about Hyundai clutches.

Can you guys please put me in the picture? Should I be worried??

Hello there mate av got an 02 plate v6 and havent had any problems with the clutch
and the beast does get some hammer the coupes got 30,000 on her so carnt really hellp

I think most of the stories I heard were related to forced induction.....

I do like the V6 auto. The V6 auto laughs at superchargers...right up to 300bhp.
With clutches it's like this........stamp on the gas and drop the clutch, even from gear to gear, and the clutch is of the shortlife variety. Allow the clutch to get hold before flooring the gas and it will last almost as long as being super cautious......( I bet you knew that already....new catch phrase)

To add another point. The clutch on both gen 3's I've driven is horrible in the sense that you have to let it out a long distance before it will bite. I doubt that was what you meant permawood, but there you go

Yeah, admittedly it *could* be the 6 speed box, but the clutch has taken me a bit longer to get used to than most cars I have had. After a long run out in it the weekend though, I am quite comfortable now and actually like the 'short shift' aspect of the V6.

I'll be honest, I haven't owned the car for 2 weeks yet, but if you dig far enough, virtually all new cars have had some trouble or other. If I'd have read all the horror stories about the Peugeot 307 before I had bought it, I may have thought twice. However, I never had a scrap of trouble with it before I PXed it. Have you watched Watchdog tonight? Seems like the ever reliable Volvo are at it now.

I think the more you will mentally drag your feet, the more convinced you will become that if you buy one, the clutch will go. I do think however, that you can get hung up about any car you are ready to fork out a lot of cash over.

The problem you are referring to is probably the TSB 04-40-005, you can find it on hmaservice.com.

I bought my V6 a month ago but I demanded a clutch-swap if I were to buy the car and this monday they changed it for me free of charge.

As for what Trouble87 is talking about, there is a valve in the slave sylinder on the clutch that is suppost to make clutching easier for beginners and old people to drive Not a joke, but funny enough. a DIY to remove that little bug*er

very many thanks for this dreamer - I think I found that TSB earlier today and was pleased that it seems to be primarily 03 cars that are affected, and I'm looking at an 04.

Even if this is covered under warranty it is a pain in the a**e when you've no car for however long it takes the dealer to get the parts and then fit them.

It's good that you're getting a newer modell so you don't have to worry about the clutch-problem. But if you are used to driving stick then you might want to look into the slave cylinder mod. Since the clutch is designed to slip in order to make the clutching smoother, it will also result in more wear on the clutch.

At least that's the guys over at nt.com are saying, and it seems logical

2003 there was a clutch recall in America not the UK.

After 2003 there was arevised clutch and there are no known major ploblems.

Plus the clutch is coverd on the 2 year /20,000 mile warrenty.
