No, we have a MAF just like Jer has. It actually has a voltage through a fine wire which creates a base temp. As air flows over it the temp is changed and this affects the voltage. The ECU interprets this voltage and uses it to decide how long to inject fuel. The injector being a fixed size and having a fixed pressure needs to blow out fuel for a shorter or longer period to correlate with low or high air flow. For most mods the system will automatically cope but as the engine mods get more extreme the need for a bigger injector will arise. In my case that will be around year 2009. I'll post up a pic of my MAF when I get a little time..have to strim a meadow first. OOhhhh,,one man went to mow........later. Also in the MAF is a temp sensor which passes a voltage to the ECU to inform it how hot the incoming air is. Hot air is less dense than cold, so less fuel is required per CFM of hot compared to dense cold air which requires more fuel for the same CFM. (cubic feet per minute)

Geesmith, thanks for that :bang

But are we not talking about gen 1's here? Like the above photo suggests?

Look at a picture of mine:

Circles in blue is the MAP sensor, green the TPS and purple is the air temperature sensor, there is NO maf on a gen 1.

Thanks

Ben

Some of the gen 1's had MAF asa far as I know, such as Jers for instance. I think its a better system for adapting to mods. Heres mine, admit its gen 3 and a Delta motor but how similar is that?
Its nuzzled up to the filter, unlike Jers which is sandwiched by toobz. Hang on....I may be a victim of software counterfeiting......there...not any more...until next time.

Let the arse kicking commence :)

The first pic identifies the MAF sensor. MAss Air Flow, measures the speed of air going up the pipe.
The 2nd Pic (withe the Blue Circle) shows the MAP, Mass Air Pressure sensor - measures the pressure of the air when it gets into the Throttle Body area.

Pretty much all but the very early US tibs/coupes have a MAF sensor.
UK cars came with a MAP, until the 2001 Gen 2, which came with a MAF, and the 3 holed manifold flange as it minor revisions.

Thanks for the arse kicking Richard, didnt feel a thing. :D
So now we all have a better understanding of that and my rather lengthy but comprehensive explanation will have cleared up any uncertainty that Spider Monkey and Jer had should they wish to have that info to hand.
Education all round, now I know what a gen1 looks like. (as if you'd airdrop into the middle of the thread without checking whats already been said. tee hee)
Love the help and good manners that one gets around this forum.
