Hi Chaps,

I have a split CV joint boot on my 1999 F2 Evo (found after taking my new coupe to tyreweb for 2 new tyres and tracking today)

Anyhoo, how easy are these to do on the coupe, anything specific which would help? (I'm pretty good with most DIY car jobs, but this is my first Hyundai coupe)

Any of you got any experience of which ones are any good? Eurocar parts seems to have a number of them, but the F2 specific one is outof stock. Are they all the same? Any other supplier I can get 'em from?

I've also got to change the discs and pads on the rear, which again, have done many times before on lots of other cars, but anything to look out for on this car?

Thanks all :)

Scoobie

Also, are the universal split CV boots any good (more of a temporary repair until the next MOT) I know they wont be as good as a 'proper' boot, but not used the split ones before...

Gaitors for a gen1 of the same year as your EVO will be fine, likewise the disks and pads etc. The CV joint job is a dirty horrible job, best left to a garage. Not difficult just grim, moly-grease up to your elbows etc. Not seen those split ones you talk of, so I cannot comment on them.

Rear disks and pads are pretty much the same as on many other vehicles. I'd never tackled a Coupe before and managed to suss mine out on the fly, if you've done 'em before you'll be fine... Make sure you give all the slidey bits a good inspection and clean and regrease, with proper brake grease. These are prone to seizure with the passage of time...

cv boot doesn't have to be 'that' dirty just glove up and grin + bear it . Did mine in just over an hour.
i dont use the split type but know people who do and they swear by them but i dont like the idea of it. I use stretchy boots you get a free cone lube up and slide over. Easy!

I've ordered a split one, and as long as it lasts until the summer when its a bit more pleasant working outside on a car, then I'm happy! :)

That is of course, as long as I remember to do it in the summer ;)

I know people who use em as a permanent repair. Nothing wrong with them.
