basically i know sweet FA about cars. but im using my coupe as my chance to learn everything i can about them, and about how they work n the parts which make them up,

I am thinking my first mod will be either CAI, or Exhaust. but to concentrate on exhaust for now. will the follow be what i need for my 1999 Gen 1 2.0 coupe:




or have i missed comething off ill need?
or have i got completely the wrong parts?
or is there better/more reccomended parts?

ssautochrome have had quality issues in the past.bigger problem is fitting issues they had.speak to a gen1 owner with one and find out exactly what issues there are.or avoid if you cant

as for fitment.... well as i said previously i know sweet FA about cars so i wouldnt even dream of attempting this myself.
what ill more than likely do is have a word with sharky and pop down there for the work - his only about half hour drive away from me so not oo far at all and i know from reading on here that he coiuld do it easily enough

Thats a near enough price for the OBX manifold. AFAIK, it should mate up with the rest of the system OK - Androo007 had an OBX and SSA combo and I don't recall him having fitment issues. Theres really nothing wrong with the XS headers, in my experience - but if you want the OBX then go ahead...

The US and UK catbacks are the same item, no difference at all except price. When you buy the full system from XSPower in UK you pay more, the boxes and stuff all have SSA Autochrome stamped on them.

That cat is a 200 cell sports cat, you need to look for a 400 cell standard cat. The one you have shortlisted would work but I feel your torque figure will suffer running that, for the reasons I mention above...

One other point. When you get all this stuff, don't handle with your bare hands. Oil from your fingers will blue the chrome in the pattern of your fingertips. Then again, thats pretty good theft recovery protection

Thats more like the one I'd be fitting, yeah - the outlets can be belled out to suit the decat flanges if needed.

Some have questioned the sanity of fitting a performance exhaust system and a standard (400cell) cat, but it worked for me. For a while, I had the highest (2.0L NASP) WHp figures on the oldest Coupe that's been tested...

If you can, get some pics of the install in progress and put 'em up on here for future reference - loads of folks have asked me but I did away with mine in a drink-fuelled fit of madness...

ill see what i can do mate. wont be buying it all for at least a month though now, im HOPING to get it done by the burton meet, but doubt ill be able to.

least now i know what to buy, as i think exhaust will probably be the first thing i do to it

You won't regret it, I spent a fair bit on mine but bang-for-buck the best mods you can do are induction and exhaust systems. Have you done the Snorkus mod yet? Takes 10 mins and sounds great, helps a tad with throttle response too...

not yet i havent, only picked her up on sunday n been workin since then. im off friday though so probably have a tinker then.

i think even i could do the snorkus mod reading though the DIY (famous last words )
