Hello, right im lookng into getting some cams for my car ( Gen 3 2003) has VVT mind, but i am considering disabling it.. what i want to know is whether any1 else who has a gen 3 has got cams?? what were they like etc.. as iv see alot going for gen 1 and 2s.
Also do the cams for these work with gen3s as im hearing mixed reviews?? anyone who ca help much appreciated =)

I cant recall anyone on here having gen3 reg rinded cams, if you look on newtiburon there are quite a few there.

yh for the 2.0.. im unsure as to whether there are some for the v6, unsure if any1 on here has them? BUT you could ring cat cams or piper and ask them because they can make them from scratch and to preference

Cams basically push the valvues in the engine up and down. performance cams keeep the valves open longer allowing more air and fuel into the cylinder and also out again, resulting in more compresion and/or faster combustion cycle.

Yes there are, on the 2.0L - not sure if the V6 is quad cam or not, TBH...

To get the best from cams you also need to be thinking about some sort of piggyback ecu and/or a remap, it's often not just a case of dropping them in and away you go...

Androo007 has looked long and hard into this, I'm pretty sure he'll be along in due course...

thats it tris.

There are 2 cam SHAFTS. The Shafts house the cams. theres one cam per valve. so on your V6 you'll be looking at 4 sets of camshafts 24 cams to push 24 valves.

I'm pritty sure the V6 is quad cam.

heh, here i am!

yep, 4 shafts, inlet x 2 and exhaust x 2. 6 lobes on each.

Theres 4 valves per cylinder (hense the 24 valves, 2 inlet, 2 exhaust on each).

Funnily enough im looking into these at the moment as FI just seems out my reach for the foreseeable time being.

The lift is indeed the height the valve is pushed open, and duration the length (or degrees) the valve is kept open.

If youre going for cams, personally...... dont go with it unless its proven.

Reasoning being, if you get lift/duration thats too high, you'll ahve a power curve that doesnt kick in till much later, and by then you'll need a higher rev limit - which means standalone ecu or begging me for the smt secret wiring diagram to extend the rev limit :innocent

To be DEADLY honest... theres no point at all disabling the vvt, you wont be able to without megga cash anyhow and it wont do alot.

Cost - you'll be looking at around £200 for regrinds, £450 for the proper billit custom made ones from catcams

ecu £300, fitting £150, tunign £300 (approximate figures)

with that cost in mind, only use ones where you can see a before and after - otherwise you'll be bitterly dissapointed

Also, whilst im on teh topic of Catcams – give Matt a call @ QEP in Hassocks 01444 243720 as im sure they can also do regrinds.

I have heard some bad press about piper in the past, and using matt before, id 100% recommend him again.

Some people talk the talk because they know jack-all. Whereas others, like Matt can talk for hours about cams because he geniunly has a passion for the things.

Bearing in mind, this is the guy that after James Green completely ruined Aarons car – one call to Matt and he knew what it was just by verbal description on the phone – something james couldn’t figure out for 2 months.

i saw matt this morning lol.. 600 pounds for a set, and yes he did mention you androo =p haha.. but he didnt know whether the cams would fit the gen 3 so iv sent photos to him and hes gunna have a look. Seeing as i have a whole course of tutors who say they can do the VVT i don't really mind, i just dont see the point in having cams and then adjusting them further with vvt.. sounds dangerous?? but i want cams bad!! lol

cams are nice, but dont be expecting miracles. You dont get the car back and go WOOOOSH WOOOOW! - imo, send matt a set of OEM cams, tell him you want max lift and max duration within reason, get uprated lifters, about 270deg and then do em
