Quick ques as im pretty sure garage im looking to buy from is trying to pull a fast one, although I know people that have bought from here and had no probs.

In short took it for test drive - changing down into 2nd the gearbox grinded on me, clutch was flat to the floor so wasnt my mistake. Car gone into bodyshop to get some bits sorted and apparently has past a health check with them saying they could only replicate it doing say 50mph in 5 and trying to change to 2nd.

Now im sure when it happened I wasnt going that fast however going for another test drive at the weekend. To me this is a fob off granted im used to now trying an under powered 1.4 tigra where I have to really rev it up but prevously to this I had a turbo corsa with a 6 speed box and never had any issue's even when giving it some stick.

So anyone else seen this issue or any advice to offer?

What engine and 'box combo is it? The early 6spd's had 'box problems, IIRC...

If it does it again, try a double declutch when changing down to second - if it then shifts fine then it's pretty likely the synchro is worn. This is caused and aggravated by aggressive starts and accelleration. Walk away.

Thanks - sorry should of said its the 2 litre, unsure what box it has or all the 2l's come with same box? Ill give it a go. Thanks for the advice. Should of mentioned its only for 36k on the clock as well.

2L is fine - just trying to ascertain whether it was 5 or 6spd...
