hi i have 1997 coupe,ive got that tappty noise coming from the chain,im just wondering is there a quick fix to this problem or does it need replacing,im only asking because ive read that you can take the upper guard off,what do think,anyone.

quick fix = iminant engine failure

have you checked your oil?

- make sure oil is ok before looking elsewhere. The Coupe's do use/loose a bit from time to time...

If thats OK, do you know it it's definately the guide that is worn, sticking lifters can cause a rattleing noise - an engine flush treatment and oil change should cure this.

If you are still convinced that is is the guides that are worn, then the best course for action would be to replace the chain and/or guards - timing belt and tensioner too. The guards are fitted for a reason and I've never heard of them being done away with before, seems like a bodgejob repair to me...

do not remove the guards. Parts are about £20, get it replaced.

thanks ,yea checked oil and is all fine,took the rocker cover off and the chain slightly loose,how much does it cost,and wheres the best place to get it done,i live near birmingham.
