Hi just found out the front pipe of my evo near the flexi joint has busted and has dropped slightly told i cant get it welded and need a new one and a few garages have said its a main dealer jobby - i refuse to pay over £300 inclusive of lavour to get this one part fixed as prolly cheaper getting new system or id at least rather pay a little more but anyway does anyone know what this particular part is called and can anyone recommend anywhere i can get this part cheaper - also the c.v joints have cracked slightly - has anyone attempted to change these themselves or is it a pro job -cheers

Best hoping someone with a gen 2 knows how the exhasut layout is.

As far as the CV boot is concerned, so long as you have the right tools and are confident with nuts and bolts shouldn't be a major problem, but if your not 100% sure about your own handy work its worth taking it to a garage mate

also worth noting that the boots need to be packed with greese, so it's gonna be a dirty job (I like to pay before getting dirty)

i did my cv boot for the last mot took me 2hours tops (from fail to pass) not too bad at all if your confident. allthough you will need grease a cv cone a FLEXI boot (thats incredably important) some gear oil as you will have the shaft out (as it is a lot easier that way)

With regard to the clips and grease, both come with the part but i feel both are inadequate. for clips i use cable ties always! and i always add to the grease that they supply, then at the end wipe away the excess and then apply clips.

Note : if this is an MOT failure they cannot fail on the cv boot having split if its the boots closest the gearbox(garage tried to pull a fast one on me "consult the testers manual" , they can the hubs though(grease + brake discs = you catastrophic fail in their eyes at least)

Yeah, there's never enough grease in that poxy little sachet they provide - I obtained a 300g molygrease cartridge last time I had to do 'em. Never really had a problem using the clips, but have used cableties in the past too

Oh right? I was basing that on looking at a couple of EVOs I've seen at meets, doesn't look any different underneath to an SE - if it's inside the pipe, that'd be why. The restricter would reduce certainly reduce the velocity of the gasses as you say, and would also effect the exhaust noise. Probably another one of the reasons why they don't sound much louder than an SE, despite the Magnex backbox.

So do you reckon that pipe I found would fit then? I'd say it would, though it'd affect the exhaust note a bit too - though no louder than fitting a freeflow midsection, might even offer a performance gain too...

i remember a real old post on here talking about that bit being different to the SE one.... weird though

wow thanks for the advise guys much appreciated - im pretty good with anything once i understand how things work ect but that said i think il pay someone to o the cv boots then saying that its hard finding a descent garage that dont just do as you want them to wivout advising about greasing other nessesary parts as has happened before however main dealers are a major rip off but least i no its done properly - ive been told my evo is part of a limited edition of 1500 imported here and even hyundai dont stock the part - they did ask me if it was a single pipe or twin so i guess i should check - back to the limited edition thing there is no badge of this on the back plate under bonnet which someone said there should be if its a limited edition so im confused on this one its an 1999 f2 evo reason hyundai couldnt match the part number was coz its an import.

Yeah, a pic would be good. IF it is an EVO there will (or should be) a plate attached to the bulkhead inside the engine bay with the MSD number on it. You should also have kick plates inside the doors, lambswool carpets, cream dials, a 'wing' type rear spoiler, a backbox which is a single oval and not twin round pipes. There will (or should be) 16" alloy wheels of a straight spoked design, the gearknob should be alloy and the gaitor leather, not vinyl...
