What is the best way to get it done?

opinions differ so much im afraid.very few people do it in the uk,are hardly anyone-if any-successfully rewrite an ecu.the best method is a piggyback

Can you explain about the piggyback please, what are the costs, how do I obtain etc?

im not the best one tbh cos im running a 2.0.faz and androooo both know of them but generally they cost summat like 450 quid to buy,then about the same to fit,they tap into your ecu and alter the settings allowing you to tune them to your spec and mods.but really you should do other stuff before that.

3 options:

remap existing ECU - virtually impossible

piggyback - little unit that fools your ecu into changing certain parameters, keep existing ECU too

Standalone - everything runs from the new bit of kit.


Depending what you have done performance wise, a piggyback would be the best bet for you.


a piggyback unit (unichip, SMT6/8 etc) retails at around £300-500 brand new, tuning costs circa £150

a standalone unit (emerald etc) retails at around £600 but will end up costing circa £4/500 to tune as there is alot more to set.


Your best bet would be speaking to your local performance expert and see what piggyback unit they recommend and know how to tune best.
