As ive already posted, before i sell the car i had the parts to service it, so i did so yesterday. The manual says 4.5litres oil capacity, we put in 4litres. Checked the level this morning and it looks like theres a bit too much in there, anyone put 4litres in and found the same? after a few tests it looked like it settled.

thats quite normal - when you drain off the oil, it never gets all of it out - about 500ml is left on sticking to parts etc etc so thats fine.

i would however, if its overfull make sure you drain some off. Otherwise oil pressure can shoot up and as a worst case, pop seals etc.

OK cheers mate. i wont be driving it today, so i may go out n give the engine a run maybe then let it settle again overnight and check again tomorow. Buy draining a bit off would i have to remove the oil plug again? veeeerrrrrryyyyy cold in garage and no axle stands lol

you *could* just leave it, the engine will burn off the extra.

depends how much is over- if its minimal, yeah sure, leave it

but when i first bought my gen 1 it was 500ml over the max mark and so had that sucked out

start the engine and leave it running for afew minutes and then check the level again, you may find that it actually levels itself out, if not then you could syphon abit of oil out of the top or dipstick holes, or just undo the oil drain for a second and get it all over your hands.

cheers guys. Well im still a bit unsure, after a few tests it showed as normal, so i then thought perhaps as the dipstick slides back in to tubing there may be oil on the sides hence giving a false raeading

but will giver her a run first and then see again

can a garage drain it?

Yeah they can suck it out via the dipstick as mark says, takes seconds

remember if you changed the filter (which i will presume you did) that takes some oil in, so when you first refill the oil you should go a little over to compensate for that.
