I certainly would have thought so, Bernie - the cylinder heads of the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 are practically identical, AFAIK.

Also needing consideration is that in fitting this, you will be doing away with the OE cat - so you will need to have one grafted into the supplied decat pipe, and of course your midsection will then need shortening to accomodate the extra lenght of the front section and flexy. No biggie though.

Is your manifold cracked after the shunt you had?

im not so sure Rik mate, the cylinder heads are completely different - ALTHOUGH - i dont think anyone has actually ever measured it.

And, if youre gonna buy a header, get it from the states. Mine airshipped was still half the price of the UK XS power price

I'd have to see another - but would have thought that as long as it was a BETA it would be OK...

Hmmm, maybe Smugglin Peanuts could measure his? You'd need the number and pattern of studs and the distance betweens centres too, to be sure.

I'll do some googling...

Right. After a bit of a delve around Google and a few other sites, I find:

According to http://www.buypartsby.co.uk the exhaust manifold gasket is the same for both the G4DK 1.6 and the G4GF 2.0. The part number is EM1220 - this shows that it will mate up with the 1.6 cylinder head as the stud pattern etc is the same.

As you say though, Andy - the cylinder head does have some differences, as the head gasket part numbers are different - possibly due to a differant compression ratio between the 1.6 and 2.0?

In addition, a quick search on YouTube produced this:

This fella has a 1.6 RD2 with 4-2-1 fitted, I can't run the video on my connection (too slow :( ) but it shows that it can be done and may even be the OBX header. You'll have to take a look...

They share the same inlet gasket too - literally, the only difference is the headgasket.

How compatable would headers be for the gen 1/2 2l (G4GF engine) and the gen 3 2l (G4GC). As far as I can tell from Wiki they've got the same exhaust manifold arrangement



Anyone shed any light on this?

yeah, headers are 2.25" but for a 1.6 you want a 2.0" system - most used size for 1.6's

Interestingly, the standard 2.0l size....

Well I may be able to test this one out, I'm in need of a new manifold for my gen 2 1.6, was the BETA engine the ones that were used early in the 2000 models of the gen 2's cause mine is a 2001 coupe

Well I'm not looking for an outlandish sounding one! R one that the stupid glanza boys have when they idle nd you think there doin 200mph! Lol yea I'd do plan on bringing the manifold to a exhaust specialist nd doin a full system so I should get 2" r mayb 2 nd 1/4 at most right so!!

It's not so much the sound, mate - it's the fact that the 1.6 doesn't get gains from the larger midsections. If they were to fit a system of too big a bore, you'd have no Torque to speak of and the car would be gutless. When I fitted the XS to mine, it was a terrible drive with no power at all. Yeah, it sounded crap too, so loud it set off car alarms. Once I got a Cat retrofitted, power was restored and exhaust note tamed.

As Andy says, need to look at 2" for max gains and best sound. IMO. :thumbup
