I was browsing ebay for items of moddification when i stumbled across a cheap simple mod that improves MPG, from the looks of it it involves strapping a magnet or two to the fuel line, thus SUPPOSEDLY improving injection, meaning better fuel consumption.

Is this right? and if so, surely magnets can be bought cheaply and simply ductaped into place!?

Along with fuel catalysts and other stuff that costs peanuts and saves you millions - Crap. Avoid.

If they were that fantastic, the maker would fit them as standard...

fuel isn't magnetic... so a magnetic field will have no effect on it. Nuff said

The idea is that any ferrous gunk is held by the magnet so not reaching your injectors. In theory giving cleaner fuel at injection. Flaws are that there is already two filters to catch more than just ferrous gunk, also there is not way to remove any trapped gunk so removing the magnet will let a lump of gunk straight to the injectors.

If in 150 years of the internal combustion engine no-one had realised that sticking a pikey little magnet to a fuel line would massively improve things then I doubt this discovery would be being peddled on eBay for seven quid.

I'm pretty sure this one claims to 'align' the molecules of the fuel so they are all north south claiming to produce a better, more efficient burn. Still garbage but not claiming to be a glorified sump plug.

Thats what I thought the 'theory' was too - but I dismissed it as a load of old testicles and promptly forgot all about it
