I know its cold outside and i know hot exhausts out into the cold would cause some visiable emissions. But my car seems to be throwing out alot of white smoke.. more then every other car that i see. and it bugs me

Is this normal?

It's caused by condensation in the exhaust pipe - exacerbated by the current cold weather. Pretty normal in these conditions, TBH. It's also one of the warning signs of impending Head Gasket Failure, so check the oil condition - mayo is bad, coolant level - loss is not good and the coolant condition - currylike appearance is not good.

The Coupe is not known for HGF issues, though, and I'm certain yours will be fine

Then again, I had recently serviced mine ("the big 50k service") and I can usually see my car smoking...Come to think of it, I have always seen a reasonable amount of smoke ever since I bought the car. I should'nt think theres anything to worry about unless anyone else knows more.

If its thick white smoke then perhaps there might be something to worry about, if its the normal sort of exhausty smoke - thats normal.

Thick smoke from exhaust can be anything really:-oil/head gasket/exhaust....

well its been servced not so long ago, all fluid are fine. oil is nice and clean and full. Just a little worried. as when im out and about mine seems to be kicking out more then al other cars, and i notice some of my friends go away after a while, the white smoke because its cold goes away onc the car is warm, but mine dosent and im follwed by constant cloud

oil wont do a thing. like said above its just water vapour, dont worry

as said above, my gen2 'smoked' all the time and it got worse if I was stationary for any length of time, however it didn't use oil and it performed very very well.

Was speaking to a friend of mine about this, Mine "smokes" a hell of alot more than other cars that i see around.

Apparently the coupe is renowned for the exhaust gasses being hotter than of most cars, this is what in cold weather appears as steam out of the exhaust.

Same as on any car but more heat = more steam

mine does the same, always blowing out vapour even after 80 miles down motorway... its a combination of weather and the double exhaust. nothing to worry about in my book.

its also worth noting that vapour is fine providing u arent losing coolant,you can tell its vapour by just looking in ur mirror and making sure that all the stuff coming out is pure white and disipates rather quickly, if it starts turning blue and it doesnt disipate (i.e. u pull off and leave a cloud of smoke) u probably do have problems.

keep on top of your oil levels and coolant levels making sure u dont lose any coolant and oil stays within expected consumption (1L per 1000 miles is considered normal by most manufacturers but out of experience i would say 1/2L every 1.5k) and providing everything is ok just forget about it.

If you have HGF and coolant is being pulled through the engine, the smoke , steam, vapour call it what will, will still be thick white. i've never know it turn blue (unless its oil related ).
The best way without purchasing anything imo is to smell it. anti-freeze has an overpoweringly sweet smell.

cheers guys, nice to know im not the only one. its fine in summer and i know it was because it was cold, just curious as to why more then other cars
