I've had my Coupé for over 2 months now, and a few days ago I managed to stall it twice out on a short journey, and even once the day before.

The way I have always driven is to let the car grab it's biting point, start very slight motion, then hit the accelerator whilst slowly releasing the clutch pedal. In the Coupé this doesn't always work and results in stalling (for me at least). I understand there are a few factors in this car which differ to my previous cars, and in-fact every other car I've ever driven, firstly it's heavier, resulting in the engine having to work harder to move it without revs, and secondly the hydraulic release of the clutch.

Now, what I'm basically asking, are my starting problems down to my inept knowledge of how to handle my car, or could there potentially be problems with some part of the clutch? and if so, how would I know... i.e. what can I do to test/check this?

The clutches have a very high biting point and with them being quite a heavy car you have to put a fair amount of revs on...dont know if this is just the V6, but i found it funny after having a pugeout 306 for 5 years. If your clutch has wear and tear you would notice it juddering very slightly at first when moving off and is more noticeable up a hill. If its slipping you would struggle to find a gear or 2, forget now which tends to go first.

Acid test for clutch slippage is to get the car rolling on level ground in 3rd. No accellerator pressed, just chugging along nicely. Ease the accellerator down and the engine revs should pick up in line with engine speed. A slipping clutch will cause the revs to rise with little increase to travel speed, feels a little like trying to accellerate on ice.

Recently had to change my clutch and flywheel due to it slipping (slipping so bad)

The problem ur having, from what I'm reading maybe u need to give it just a lil more gas for the car to push along.

You can check by driving ur car on 1st/2nd gear -really give it some acceleration - if u feel a response (as it should do, then ur fine) but if ur accelerating and the car is not responding, loads of gas slipping out the exhaust, then yes ur clutch is on its way out.

Also, try hill starting it to see how well the clutch is bitting on..

if your clutch is slipping then replace it.

Best gear to test it is higher gears low revs when it is under more strain not 1st or 2nd

a trick i use is just put it into 5th put the handbrake on and then try to pull away iff all is ok it will just stall straight away iff it is slipping it will try to drive off as in the engine revs will increase without stalling,give it a go

Dunno how much they'd charge to fit one in a '3, but for my '1 it was £220 and took 3 or 4 hours. Clutch supplied was LUK pattern one and very good...
