I was about to do the DIY oil change until I realised I only had the emergency Jack and no axel stands so i've popped to Halfords and pick up a set (trolley jack and 2 x axel stands).

Ok so I know where the jack points are on the sides of the car but is there a point on the front of the car where it's safe to jack up from so that both wheels are off the ground at the same time (so I can stick the stands underneath) also where is the best place to put the stands?

I think the towing point is the place, its under the centre front of the car. I've never done it and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but thats where I would go

As Scout said, theres a spot at the front for lifting it with a trolley jack. As regards to the axle-stands, I've only used them a few times and I've always put them under the jacking points at the front of the side sills. Probably not the best place for them, But I've never had any problems and the car hasn't fallen on me yet

any place that is not going to move, i.e subframe yes, wishbones (near to the wheel ) no .wishbones(where they join the subframe) yes. engine no. exhaust NO. like scout said the towing eye which is incorperated (sp) into abrace type thingy (cant think of the name of it argggggghhhhhhh!!) but iirc the back mount is incorperated into it. yes.
chassis rail yes but i use a piece of wood as it can mangle it up

chock your wheels , lift 1 side at a time put your stand under then lower then the other . its safer imo and you cant get more height.

If your removing wheels ( i know your not but now you have a proper jack you might be inclined to ?) allways put your wheel under the car just incase (if it slips off the stand it could save you). Also slacken your wheel nuts before you lift it in the air. (obviousley not for this application)

sorry for the mumbled post
