Hello everyone

Modifying my TB from a gen1 and have wondered if anyone has had problems like i have with removing the screws from the butterfly? i soak them with wd40 and still the bl**dy thing would not move. anyway i have now damaged the top of the screw :oops . it seems like i have to drill them out anyone with any other ideas?

Had the same thing last week - had to drill mine out as the screw is so soft.

Only other thing to try if you have one is a small chisel - bang in a new extended - grive across the crew, the use a wider flat blade screwdriver to get it out.....

Its my spare stock one from my old gen 1 - at the moment getting hold of an engineer to get it bored out from 53mm to 58 with new brass butterfly, then flog it along with matched manifold for cost...

yeah cost price :lol im sad enough to like pulling cars apart for a hobby :lol

those screws are as stupid as the ones that hold the disk to the hub on the wheels....

well i make it sound "easy" :lol but it'll take a skilled engineer and a lathe to bore it out, make a perfectly symetrical butterfly etc etc.... not sure on the costs yet

The screws are m4, so just run a 3.2mm drill straight down the middle and retap the hole (thats what i did) any decent hardware shop will have c/sunk m4 bolts.
The reason they won't move is that they are stuck in with threadlok, so that engine vibrations won't loosen them and send them through the engine.

Andrew where did you get the 58mm butterfly from? If I had a bigger butterfly i'd be able to bore out the body myself.

get one made up - its only brass....

the previous one i had was dont by someone else - i bought it as a second hand unit - but i was looking at the edges as per your higher posts, and i couldnt see it being knife-edged etc - just plain ol' straight cut

Can't see as the edge would make a deal of differance anyways. Having seen the abortion that passes for an induction tract on a standard Coupe, would there REALLY be that much differance between a knife edge and a squared-off one - outside of F1-style engine dynamics?

The standard one is squared-off, that'd be near enough for me - it's gonna be right angle to the airflow at full throttle anyways, and that airflow will 'roll' around the spindle that its attached to anyways...

Just my 2c worth :)

:help i had taken some pictures of my TB before i had taken it apart but the pictures were not that clear, i cannot remember what the green spring on the TB hooks on to. Has anyone got any clear pictures of a TB i can look at .
