Prior to buying my coupe back in October I had an RAC inspection done on the car, result was generally that it was ok to buy but there was a couple of notes on the negative side

"The exhaust has been identified as having limited life because, although there was no leakage, there is external corrosion present and the inside of the system, which may have significant deterioration, cannot be inspected"

So what im getting at here is how bad is this? Any ideas on cost to fix/replace or ways to preserve its 'life' for the time being? & Will it be ok to leave to the next MOT which is in July next year?


The second thing was: "It is advised that the road wheels be removed and general brake wear and serviceability inspection be carried out to ensure all components are within manufacturers wear limits as there are wear lips on the disc edges"

Again, can this be left til the next MOT?

how long is a piece of string? you know its nacked so you need a new one.....better start saving

The exhaust will be fine until it starts to 'blow' - when or if this occurs is down pretty much to chance. As long as the system is secure and is not blowing, then it will pass the MOT just fine - though you may get an advisory...

Likewise the brakes - unless they are totally rooted, they'll pass inspection. If in doubt, many garages offer a brake inspection for free or a token tenner...

If its just a small patch on the exhaust, and on an easily accessable bit then you can get patch welded onto it, or even a sleeve, although they will need welding. If its that bad you can use it as an excuse to upgrade to a bigger stainless one.
Mine went right around the flange between centre section and backbox, was that corroded the nuts were part of the flange, couldn't unscrew them and ripped whole centre section clean off, was a bit screwed 10 mins later when I found out my bargain stainless replacement was for a Lantra!
Still fitted but was 120mm too long, had to wait all weekend before I could get a mate who welds stainless to cut and shut it for me.
