Warning light after spending 5hrs in the snow and slush

Warning light came on after crawling home between 3-10mph for 30 miles in the snow and slush.

Light is yellow, looks like a gearbox (to my untrained eye) and has the word CHECK right underneath (or above?) it. Is this something I can sort myself with a trip to halfords, or is this a trip to the garage and plug into their diagnostics machine?

Car seems to be running fine today on its 35 mile trip to work.

2002 v6, 70K miles, just had minor service.

thats the general "oh god summats wrong warning"
could be anything from nothing to major fault.see if it goes off on its own.if it does its probably ok it will leave a fault code and next time you have it read they'll know what it was....if it doesnt go off........get down the garage

Also you have "gen2" in your profile, if you have an 02 v6 then its a gen3

the only time you worry is when it flashes.....thats bad news.but staying on not so much so

if it was me id just reset the ecu, this should turn the light off, if it is a persitant problem it will come back on and then you know it needs sorting :thumbup

it will store the fault code anyway so you will know what it is

i think they go solid yellow (possible fault, keep an eye/ear out), flashing yellow (problem exists get sorted ASAP) and red (Stop now and don't start the engine till its sorted)
