I have a 05 Coupe SE which is just due it's 60K service (all previous services up to date) Until yesterday it ran like a dream, but on starting the engine yesterday, the engine management warning light came on and when I engaged reverse to back out, it "clunked" into reverse, in drive it was no problem and it got me the 500 yards home. I also noticed later on when checking that the (N) neutral, (D) drive and (P) park indicators on the dashboard came on when engaged, but the reverse doesn't.

I'll contact the dealership in the morning but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

gearbox oil level? checked it?

Most autobox issues are down to problems with the transmission fluid, IMHO - check the level and get it changed if it looks dark or manky. Do you still get reverse even though the light is out, could be the bulb has blown...

Thanks for the replies. Turns out it was a selector inhibtor switch (or something like that) and is an easy fix covered under warranty.
