Hi there guys,

I know this is a commly asked question, but mines sorta different - when i start the engine from cold, for the first 2 seconds its really loud - when the oil is getting to the head - then goes completely.

Is this normal? Because starting everyday without protection for even 2 seconds doesnt sound good to me.....

Other than tipping oil in the top of the engine before startup (then it'll be overfull ) what, if anything can I do Macker?

Well i use to take a lead off so the engine wouldn't start the last time i had a car that done this ... then just crank it over till the oil light went out , put the lead on and fired it up ... there is not alot that you can do about it

Hyundais service standard for the V6 Delta engine is that if the vehicle isn't started for 48 hours or more, or subjected to cold weather, it is acceptable for the Hydraulic Lash Adjusters to rattle for up to 15 minutes, believe it or not. The rattle should stop after the vehicle has been driven for up to 15 minutes at speeds between 2000 - 3000rpm. If it doesn't you have a problem with, either the oil pressure or the HLAs.
It sucks but it's a fact of life with a Delta engine, the oil drains out of the HLAs really quickly.

it has been a little ticky recently (oil full) but its the startup noise that was worrying, but all is ok

seriously,sharkys even does this,so dont worry bout it its probably the cold weather.unless last time you did summat you was missing a spanner..................
