Fitted an air filter resently, though like a dunce i just bought the filter not the metal intake pipes etc.
Put my foot down and it sound awesome, really beefy, however when there are low revs or ideling it sounds like a hair dryer, well thats as close to the sound i can describe it.
Is it supposed to sound that way?

Depends on the filter, TBH. You'll get a different sound with a metal gauze filter to a Green cotton one to a PiperX sponge-type etc etc. Any chance of a pic?

universal - i prefer these to the piperx one i have now (spongy one) should be alright - not sure about the hairdryer noise - you sure its not just the engine?

It only sounds that way if theres no filter or this filter on, if i go back to stock parts its fine

What I basically asked is how is this filter attached to the engine? Have you gone direct off the throttlebody without any elbow at all. If so, then the induction note will be very prominant indeed - the more pipe you add, the quieter it gets...

Bottom line is if it runs ok and the noise isn't annoying 90% of the time, then it's all good. If you would prefer it a bit quieter, add some tubing. You can get all the necessary bits off eBay, tubes elbows couples, the lot

I have that very same filter on my CAI, it does sound like a hair dryer but only when its idle, the rest of the time its very beefy.

Any ideas what diameter pipes i need for the intake?

God knows mate You'll have to measure up the kit you have and suss what you need yourself. You'll find all you need on eBay, as I say.

and any ideas how i could sort out the maf sensor doesnt look like there is anywhere for it
