Sorry for bringing up this muchly-talked-about mod, however I've read many different opinions from many different sources. Aside from the obvious additional growl, there seems to be two opinions regarding the mod:

1. It will allow a better/cooler flow of air, potentially even giving slightly better performance or better MPG if driven the same.

2. It does nothing but add noise.

I've never seen anyone state that it can be risky or make things worse, performance or MPG wise, so that's a plus.

I understand that any additional performance would very likely be negligible, as would the MPG gains... but are there really any anyway?

It does give slightly more noise, and gives a better flow of air since it doesn't need to go through all the extra piping, it won't be any cooler though.

I also experienced a smoother delivery of the available power, but that could have been a placebo effect

dupe, the air will be warm by the time it reaches the air filter through all that piping anyway, so I'd think the temp difference was negligible

Well said, Hutchy - I had an SRI for most of summer '08 and when I put the cold feed on in Oct I never noticed ANY improvement in the drivers seat,,,

I would challenge The Stig to detect the difference the 1 or 2 Hp cold air would make over the warm. It's all bollox.

That being said, every little helps - hence the fitment of of the cold feed ;)

Finally got round to chucking in the K&N Panel... Not overly sure if it's just placebo affect or not, but it seems to have made a big difference. Brilliant! Got mine from here: £33.61 delivered.

I immediantly noticed a big increase in noise when I did mine in the summer, the car sounds like I would expect it to for a coupe now, purposeful and growly (the roar above 4,000rpm is particually addictive). I'm planning to fit a K&N panel filter in there in the spring when I have some more cash.

unless youre changing it in service intervals, dont bother. The mighty 1-2bhp it gets you - just run with a little less petrol in the tank - the weight saving will be more noticeable than those ;)

Androo is a good mate, but I reckon the panel filter gives a bit more than that :b Nowt to do with the fact I'm running one, of course :rollin

SRI and a suitable cold air feed would be my first choice, do away with the foglights and run the feed from there. Thats what I did on Gen1, anyways - dunno how well that would work on gen3 or newer, differant layout in the engine bay and stuff...

The SRI sounds the best tho, IMHO - and seems to give the better gains if set up properly :thumbup

spent a few hours tinkering down garage the other day, done snorkus and ecu reset then filled up with some super unleaded and stp injector cleaner stuff. the result was verging on the insane. :drool would definately recomend this as time well spent.

Seems to me that it (the Snorkus Mod) is more effective on gen's 1 and 2 - we tried it on the '3's and above and it seems to do the square root of sod all. Biggest surprise for me was Sare's V6 - no noise increase, nothing whatsoever. I reckon the air intake system was more sorted on the later gens, which is why there seems little improvement...

Makes an awesome noise on my 02 Gen 3. But then I have a cone filter right after the first elbow

Not sure about power though, and a gain of 2-3 bhp isn't exactly going to be too noticable (other than psychologically)
