Ticking noise is most probably not related to the charge warning lights - more likely a sticking lifter or worn cam chain guides. Give it an engine flush and oil change and see if theres a differance.

Check the voltage output of the alternater. Start the car, connect the positive probe of a DMM (set to 20vDC) to the positive and place the negative probe on a good earth (engine block, body panel bolt etc) and check the voltage. Should be 13.8vDC or thereabouts...

Got a mate who works at halfords to do a battery and alternator check and it came back as the battery was ok but the alternatour wasn't receiveing the right amount of power?

Take it this just means a loose belt or knackered pulley?
