Have you just fitted a ****** induction kit with a cheap idler hose?

This happend to mine when i got a crap kit, the idler hose had a kink in it and would suck in on its self when cold and loosen up when warm.

Or there could be issues with the Idle Air Control Valve or as Owain suggests, it's related hoses. Thats the module that sits behind the inlet plenum - looks kinda like a cylinder with a couple of hoses running out of it, and a multiplug at one (drivers side) end. Have a look to see if they are clear, and make sure they haven't softened over time and sucking in...

What engine you have, fella? I'm assuming 2.0L

So far it runs fine when it's warmed up. No changes made to air intake recently, has had snorkus mod for 5 years.

Yes it is the 2.0L. Not sure I could have done 203k miles in a 1.6! When the Psst noise happens there is a kind of metallic poing noise too! It is very odd.
