I was driving home and my coupe (2003) just stopped working! The Yellow 'check' malfunction light came on just before the engine cut out, and then there was nothing - no acceleration it just rolled to a halt! I couldn't start it afterwards so rang the RAC. When he turned up it started no probs and I was able to drive it away! (RAC man didn't do anything, it just happened that it decided to turn back on). Drove it no probs today. I'm worried it's going to happen again - any ideas?

Checked my oil today and wasn't too bad - put a bit more in. I'm not technical so I'm at a complete loss what could have happened.

2 things - I had accelerated quite quickly and waited till 5.5k revs to change gear about 45 mins before that. I parked it up for about 25 mins and it happened around 10 mins into my drive back.

- I put fuel in from a different garage to usual earlier in the day (97 octoane - can't remember which garage but not shell, which is where I usually go.) must be a coincidence.

well dirty fuel could well be a consideration but normally with fuel you get a bit or lot of jerking then cut out.immediate stops are normally electrical.might change fuel filter if it was me.check earth lead from battery too

hmm electrical would normally be noticed in dash light failure rather than check light coming on? maybe it's a sensor being affected by heat? (heavy revs before problem then cool down no problems)

when you tried to restart was there coughing? ticking, whiiring, cranking? nothing?

be thankful it came back on

seemed to be fine today again too. hopefully it was just a one off - i'll take it to the garage at some point if I can get the time off work. thanks for your suggestions.

iv often wondered as a side note,if anyone did a drive off and that dodgy fuel damaged their engine did they go back and complain or try and sue tesco?

yeah from what i remember they put loads of the anti foaming solicone agent thigny thats in dielel into the petrol mix, muffing up everyones lamda sensors

As sharky said it does sound like the CPS is on its way out.

update: I took it to the garage and it turned out to be the battery. Vaults seemed fine on the interiour guage but that's wat they said so I had it done. It has been starting after warm now but there's still something in me that doesn't trust it to start!
