I had a new cambelt on my V6 done in June and for the last couple of months since the weather has got colder and damper, it appears to squeak when I start up in the morning and persist for about 5 miles until the engine warms up. This is repeated when I leave work about 5.00 at night. I have been told that my model only has one belt so I can't check fan belts, A/C belts, PAS belts as they all work off this one cambelt.

I am now seriously scared to drive the thing in case I get terminal damage. I did try a touch of oil sprayed around the belt just in case and I felt the belt tension but believe there is an automatic tensioner so can't even tighten it which I know is often the problem with squeaky belts. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem. My car is out of warranty and as usual everything to do with these cars is soo expensive.

most likely unrelated to cam belt. most likely aux belts like ac alternator or power steering. just go back to the garage that did the work and expalin your concerns in the mean time dont touch or spray anything on the belts.

I had this problem until the car warmed up, the vibration pulley had worn through and was eating through the side of the engine plastic. Get it to a garage asap and get them to see if the vibration pulley has worn through, they are meant to be changed after 100,000 miles or around 5 years.

My car was just out of warranty so i had to pay for it, cost me 120 for the pulley and i had the cam belt done at the same time so it was a little bit more.

Did you have the cambelt done at a hyundai dealer? smaller garages might not know anything about the coupe and its vibration pulley so they wouldn't have checked it.

Unfortunately a mechanic friend did it for me though he is a Hyundai mechanic so no garage. It was my first cambelt change and my car has only done 60000. Guess I better take it to a garage.
