Recently bought my first Gen 2 Coupe 1.6. (88,000 miles on clock) and everything seemed sweet for the first 100miles or so.

Now it is burning oil like I have never seen before!

Oil was at low mark so topped up with 10/40 and added in some slick 50 for good measure.

Still got smoke coming out of exhaust and engine not firing properly.

Got it going in for a compression test but have been told it is probably the valve stem oil seals.

Anyone had experience with changing these?
Is it possible without changing the whole cylinder head?
And if it is where can i get a new head gasket without spending over the odds at a Hyundai Garage.

Any replies appreciated.

Well tbh the price of a h/g will be the least of your worries costwise unless youre doing it yourself im afraid.

Have you ruled out the possability of HGF rather than stem seals? If the gasket has blown in a certain place it can cause oil to burn, as i havent heard of stem seals going on these engines up to date.....

the stem seals themselves are pennies but the labour will be quite extensive if so.

Personally, double check its not HG before going for the plunge.

Where did you buy it? If trader or garage take it back and demand full refund.
