bug*er.

I was driving up a steep hill, 3rd gear, 3.5k revs, engine running sweet as a nut.... or so I thought.

Stopped at a zebra crossing, but when I went to set off, there was a rumble and the car sounded like a tin of beans... just like a bloody diesel.

Stopped straight away and called Green Flag.

When the start the car, the whole engine shakes like hell. Then when you build up any revs its just sounds extremely noisy and tinny :(

I thought that a pulley had come loose or something on the fan belt and was rotating at and angle or something - hense the big vibration.

The guy from Green Flag said it sounds like a tappet has collapsed or possibly something else internally :(

oil levels are fine, engine temperature was fine, the car was revving and idling fine...
Any other ideas as to what it could be?

Worst thing is that i've now gotta get back to blackpool from cardiff with the car on the back of a bloody truck.... not exactly what I was expecting :(

This could be anything ... even one of your valves dropping and bending :roll:
But over the last week mine and Faz's V6 Coupes have took the knock , with Faz's it was the front middle HT lead , with mine the engine light came on and it sounded like a bag of spanners , i change the 3 front HT leads on mine and done a ECU reset ... the engine light went out and its running like a goodun again , they say things happen in 3's ... so do you think it would be worth trying your leads , when the V6 only run's on 4 or 5 cylinders , it sounds like a cement mixer gone wrong ... well just a thought , good luck whetever it is ... and it doesn't cost to much to put right ;)

well its definately a tappet (or 2?!) gone.

Reading over the net, a busted tappet on a V6 is very noticable.... loud ticking, misfiring and engine judders... all of my symptoms :(

Just waiting to hear what the damage will be.

Could it have anything to do with having the timing belt changed? That was done only last week and the car was fine before that....


Depressing or what.... I have a feeling this'll cost 4 figures for some reason :(

Well it's truly screwed.

Mechanic had a look at it and the engine is totally seized. He can't get it to turn over at all.
God knows what it is :(


How much for a new engine? :(

If its totally seized this could mean the oil pump has packed up , did any lights come on the dash ... engine/oil lights .

Yep big time , once the oil pump stops working ... its only a matter of minutes before the whole engine would seize up :roll:

lol!

the pistons in the back of the V need replacing and the valve heads snapped off.

Basically the oil pump gave up the ghost, oil pressure got too high and eventually lead to the pistons hitting the valve heads.

Luckily, no other damage has been done so instead of getting a used engine, i'm having the current one rebuilt at a bit of an extra cost.... but it means I have assurance that it shouldn't happen again :)

Also gonna get the clutch done while the engine is out :)

Should have a fairly new engine at the end of this! :lol:
