I might be missing the point....but why is a CAI so much more expensive than the SRI, if all that is different is the longer piping ?

I have noticed that the CAI is nearly £100 more than the SRI...so what's the extra £100 extra for or are you getting something else for your money that I havent realised

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for but....would this really make that much difference or are you merely paying for the name ?

Ive never seen the price difference that much before between a CAI and a SRI of the same brand and spec...

Usually there about £30-60 more expensive.

If you didnt really want to shell out massive amounts, get on eBay US and get yourself a fujita or aem filter on its own (correct size of course) they cost about £25ish delivered last time i was on there.

Then get yourself a cheap CAI/SRI kit for the coupe, after all the stainless steel ducting is all the same, some just have a brand name on! Put your filter on and your sorted!

Hi Brett, I used to own a V6 and had an SRI fitted, K & N which came with the filter and pipework. This also includes a flexi pipe which you can fit into the base of the front bumper to direct cold air up to the filter. It cost me £100 and I loved it. You get fantastic noise when you plant your right foot and its a bit more responsive.

Personally, I wouldn't pay an extra £100 for the CAI as you really wont notice the difference plus it will not sound as good.

You can also buy a Piper X kit which is basically just the filter and fits straight on to your existing pipework. This will cost you around £60 - £70 and will do the same job. It will however not look as good as the K & N as you have to fix it to the engine with the fixing kit provided to stop it moving around & rattling about. The fixing kit is a a aluminium rod which looks awful.

Go for the K & N, trust me you'll thank me for it.

Am I right is understanding that the additional pipework was almost like converting your SRI into a CAI ?

I think people have sold me that the K&N SRI is the best one to go for...

Where would you get this additional flexi pipework you mentioned because this sounds a good option !

I've been looking at the garage and I notice some people have said the installation was easy but required some slight modification, but they dont detail why/what ?

My coupe is a 2.7 v6 gen3....so would I have to alter anything or would everything I need be in the box ?

Also...what's a gen3 (facelift) is this merely a gen3 where somebody has modded it ?

gen 3 facelift is known as the gen3.5 bud, so they changed the lights and bumpers slightly,

everything you need will be in the box mate

i cannot see how a filter can go for 100,000 miles tho without a clean???

Its a bit like the old fully syth myth.

They say you dont need to change the oil for 20k, but the cleaner the oil is the happier your engine.

100k of sh*t and crap going through it, id be amazed it isnt mullered. Theres no real difference in teh way they work between a stock panel filter and a super duper k&n. And the fact that its supposed to draw MORE air - technically would get more crap in the way

SRI is what I opted for, basically because its an easier mod and you dont have to mess about with any sensors that you may have to do if you opt for an CAI. Never the less it is true that a CAI will give better performance as the air coming in is colder.

Anyhow an SRI will still give better performance than your stock air filter!!

The sound I get on mine is amazing! You can definitly get heads turning especially if you are on a road with high buildings on both sides! WOW!

There are a few posts else where that I have done, so it might be worth searching for them and reading my comments.
