this is what i have herd, locate the carb and unscrew the pipe so you have the bare metal shown and place you hand over the intake ( form a seal) on the carb and pull the accelarte cable this aparently cleans the crap out.

This will work but if system is "dirty" you may pull more dirt in. A colleague of mine...oh go on then it was me.. once formed a seal with a lint free cloth , revved the engine and had the cloth dragged half way through the carb. Fortunately the car was red so blushes didnt show too much. This also freaks you out if you dont realise how much a motor can suck! Mostly injection these days so not as common. You are basically forceing all the motors suction to concentrate its force on the fuel jets momentarily, any longer and the engine dies. It will of course start again blockage permitting.

i have heard of that before, but it wasn't as effective as it sounds, in all fairness, no large particles or crap should get passed the fuel filter. the results of a blocked filter would be as you say, fuel starvation or reduced fuel to the injectors, i found that some fuel tanks at garages (especially supermarkets) have that much crap in them, it just gets pumped in to your car when you fill up.

if you start having starvation probs, i'd change the fuel filter first and see if it cures it.

they usually recomend the fuel filter be changed every 20,000 ,iles , but ive known some to be on there 60, ooo, an then the punter wonder's why his engine runs like a bag of sh*te.
i change my fuel filter every 2 years, i even cut one open once, i was shocked at how dirty and slimey it was, unreal mate.
