This really does work!

Unplug the positive lead from your battery but just the positive one and leave for a minute.

Then turn the the key in your ignition to the second position, and then turn it off. Do this repetitively 10 times whilst constantly pressing the brake pedal.

What this does is it resets your ECU.

Then put the lead back on the battery and thrape the hell out of your car. Your ECU then re-programmes itself to the way you drive, thus giving it that little extra.

Correct me if I'm wrong here -don't you just need to disconnect the battery then re-connect?! I'm not sure about the whole ignition key business - who told you that? I honestly don't think you need to keep pumping the brake pedal either - just make sure that the current has totally drained by pressing the pedal once.

Thats unless I've been doing it wrong!

Are you really telling us this as new information? It's just a standard ECU reset.

Oh and the 10 times thing is un-necessary, just until the charge has disappeared.

Gen 3 has a pre programed ECU. the americans do it just because i resets the MAF thats all. It makes no diffrance on the GEN3 just stops the car throwing the "CEL" when fitting an induction.

It was a guy from hyundai who told me. He did it for me, but any way, it worked.

my F2 has like an imobilisor (sp) next to where you put the key in and what you do is on my key i have a little black round thing about 2inch long and i stick that in the end of it untill the light stays on then i can start my car... this isnt factory fitted is it? my coupe has induction kit and a cat back exhaust and i still havnt reset the ECU, when doing so could it knacker this imobilisor and prevent my car from starting?

no it won't harm the imobalizer..............well i wouldn't have thought so anyway.

Excuse me for being thick but......What would resetting the ECU actually achieve. Would it help to improve the performance of my 1.6s???

i did this tonight on my 2.0 se gen 1....1st and 2nd i didnt notice much but 3rd 4th and 5th it really did help....4th was much much better no doubt!used bp ultima (sp) then when that ran out i used shall optimax and that seemed to improve low end even more so

Just a quick one on this subject......

Can this be done on my 2.0 SE Auto? If so, i;ll be WELL happy as at the mo, 'it can be a big sluggish going into overdrive or even 3rd when i have my foot down hard and the Warp Factor button is off. I'm not expecting a great deal of change, but a little bit wouldn't hurt.
