The widgets advertised on ebay as a 'mod chip' which gives you 15 or 25bhp is simply a resistor worth about 10p.

It fools the cars ecu in to running rich (which Coupes do a bit anyway) to try and get a bit more power, however this thing will not improve your car and will eventually make it go bang!

Would a power boost valve or ecotek do the same thing - i.e. not work and make the engine go bang?

If you want your car to go faster by modding the ECU then you are better off paying the extra for a proper remap.

Those chips are just standard resistors that they have got to work on one car and then sold the same resistor in the off chance that it will work on all cars, and from the feedback on the sellers of these resistors, they just cause problems, one guy in fact had to buy a new ECU because it caused it to go bang :aargh

Instead of posting all over the site for remap advice why didn't you put 'remap' in the site search engine. I just have and have come up with this companythat says they will be able to do a 2.7 V6 so could be worth a telephone call. It came from this threadin which you will see why you havn't had much response from other members as they are all looking for the same thing.

Of course im kidding! lol.
Has no-one thought of paying £150 for a 'fake power mod' and splashed out for one of those electric superchargers! can give you up to 1.7psi of boost! they actualy have a dyno result for the coupe on there too!
Shoot me down in flames, but i can see the theory working. but im buggad if im spending that much to find out!

Agh but see there is a problem with those electric superchargers...

Where a standard SC is regulated by the engine, if you put your foot down, higher revs, more air being rammed into cylinders, more power etc.

These electric SC are not regulated just a motor with a fan on to suck in air.

So basically what I'm saying is at 3546 rpm it would be PERFECT! But anything below you get far to much air, and anything above you don't get enough, so the mixes are upset and you end up mis firing and all other sorts of problems.

If you did want to give it a go still they do them for about £60ish on US eBay...

The resister mod is a waste of time and can screw your motor .As the gent said the resister is around 10 pence to buy and its just fools the ecu so it adds more fuel but as we all know more fuel needs more air to create more power . A weaker running motor is faster than a rich one so simply get more air in with a 57i or simular . My Skyline runs a RWBHP of 560 hp and will lose 40 of that if i take off my Trust Greddy suction kit and replace it with the standard so i guess you could expect 10-15 hp gain on a coupe . I am looking for info on whats the best filter to buy for my coupe so any help would be great .

hey all new to the forum but know a lil bit about this stuff the cheap chips r a waste of money cuz it needs the exact resistance to work correctly

the ecotek widgets r very DANGEROUS do not fit them if u like ur car here have been sevel court cases agaist the company for false advertising and also they attach to ur brake system and can cause a pressure lose in the brake system which means u basially could have no brakes then ouchy ouchy ur coupes in a hedge

tuning a car is not cheap it a case of how deep is your pocket. on the up side the coupe is a fairly powerfull car anyway 130+mph on todays roads that should be enough for anyone. :bang

hey guys i know that most "chips" out there are just resistors that fool your car into thinking the air is colder etc. but what about this one? [ebay]220322221876[/ebay] any good or not?

well i dont even know what a piggyback unit is so how am i supposed to know how much they cost? i dont much about this sorta thing so it was just a general question coz most of the stuff in this post is about the ones that are just a resistor and this clearly states that it is NOT just a resistor and was merely inquiring whether these were different . and it appears that they are not!

ah but thats just it you see.you dont have to know anything about cars to see thats a con.there's loads about resistors on the internet now so they are dressing them up.you would know when you saw the resistor its a con.this looks better so when you open it you think hmmm looks good.but its the same resistor in a plastic case.nobody is their right mind thinks you can get 25bhp for a few pence.if some of these conmen thought they could sell you summat they'd state anything too.dont believe everything you read on these sites.you ever met anyone who can tell you they said on a site........."whoo thats fantastic-id recommend"
think about it

well thats the exact reason that i posted on here - to find out! coz i dont belive everything i read and i know its easy for people to say that they have had 5000 people say its fantastic and works great. which is why i ask real people that know about things that i dont.

I bought the resistor mod, and an ecotek and a surbo, when I had my coupe. It dyno'd at 390 at the WHEELS.

It just sounds like you guys are jealous.
