I have a list of everything on my first service and the only thing that was replaced was the oil, oil filter and pollen filter. ThereÂ’s a long list of stuff that was checked but nothing else was changed. Does anyone know if this is right because I have a feeling they should have done considerably more. Particularly changing my Air filter and perhaps my spark plugs.

I have a sneaky feeling that because I have three years free servicing they have skipped a few items.

How many miles Albert? Apparently the plugs on the V6 are good to 50,000 according to the schedule in the handbook.....

Hi Albert, the handbook has the service schedule, somewhere near the back if I remember right. The items to be attended to are outlined for each service. Hopefully they followed that. Still havent done my tango removal mate, far too nesh for this weather, used to be the last team off the scaffolding.....

sounds about right, first service is basically an oil change & a load of checks - you could really consider all servicing a rip-off, your really paying for the labour charge, around £80/hr

-- it's one of the main reasons the EU changed the rules on car warranties, we basically have a choice now of getting ripped off or not, dealer or independant

good points MKAT, some guys Ive spoken to in the states look very cinically at the warranty. They basically ignore it. Their cars are mod monsters. Hardly anything that can be modded is left standard and Hyundai more or less say goodbye to the car about a week after it's sold. A deep wallet is no doubt required...one of the guys said " I bought me a car, Hyundai got my money now they keep thier nose out"....different.

Hyundai are pretty clever really when you consider the 5yr warranty:

5yrs X £250 (on average) = £1250 from each owner

During this time most people don't claim on the warranty so for your money you get basically:

5 oil changes
1 set of spark plug
1 air filter
1 odour filter

-- brake pads etc will all be extra

--- Warranty is a nice little earner for dealers

Just to balance the discussion though obviously some people have problems & the warranty is a godsend, so far I have had to claim for a new rear windscreen due to faulty heater elements, this would probably have cost around £400 / £500 so not doing too bad myself

Everyone can reduce their servicing costs by having them done by an independent (VAT registered), average charges probably around £100 / £150 for an annual service so quite a saving !! Obvious downside to this is that most will not be able to access the electronics, so if any fault codes are present they can't be resolved - no guarantee though that the dealer bothers to check for fault codes either !!

Personally think Hyunda servicing is on the expensive side but am prepared to pay the costs as the 5yr warranty was a significant part of my decision to buy the coupe in the first place - sort of a slightly expensive insurance policy I suppose !!!

If you didn't have the car serviced by Hyundai you should still get the rear screen replaced and same for other items not involved in the service schedule. I've kicked Hyundai into touch re. servicing. I'll attend to everything on the schedule in my own way and feel liberated by that. If the body shows signs of rusting I'll take it up with Hyundai- statutory rights still apply. Obviously if the pistons and valves go west cos I didnt change the belt (which won't happen) then Hyundai would not be expected to deal with that as a warranty item. Just examples...nearest reputable dealer is too far and I'm confident in the vehicle so happier to waive the warranty...when I was younger, with a slimmer wallet.....

p.s. good point about fault codes..need a fault first though.( crosses fingers and touches wood)

My 'friendly' dealer (sadly long-since gone) admitted to me that the perforation warranty wasn't really worth the paper it's written as they would only be held liable for corrosion that occured inside-to-out...

-- Forget any claims regarding rust/bodywork, warranty just won't cover them - basically a bit of a sales gimmick

Tried to claim on my previous Ford Puma for a known "rusting fault" - no chance

-- re foregoing the warranty think it's a shame as it's a good deal from Hyundai, an independant will service your car to the Hyundai schedule & stamp the book for around £150

Yep, bodywork wasnt the best example to throw out..must be a throw back to the Alfa days. They were like lace curtains at 10 yrs old. :lol
