Lo every1!

Im seriously contemplating on buying a hyundai coupe gen 1. Ive checked performace specs of both the 1.6 and 2.0 and relative insurance groups so im in the process of acquiring quotes.
Im only considering the gen 1 car because A - I h8 the front end on the Gen2 B - The Gen 3 is way outta price range and C - I love the slimline look to the first model as well as the interior.
What im after is, any pro's or cons which may differentiate between me buying a 1.6 or a 2.0 considering performance figures are not wildly different.
Is there any difference in handling between the two?

not dissing a 1.6 here, imho there is a very noticable difference between 1.6 and 2.0 but its all down to what you can afford for insurance, have you thought about an F2 which has the same power as the 2.o but has cosmetic changes e.g better alloys and F2 logos inside.

if you wanted a little extra power the F2 evo would be best allthough it says its faster think summot like 15bhp im not sure wever you can tell its faster or not?

good luck with your hunting mate.

things to check would be the manifold, check its not cracked/blowing.
also the seal near the sunroof check that the bodywork is ot rusting around it.
obviusly all the electronics windows/locking/CD.

btw if the clock is flickering on and off but its a great car get it mate all our clocks flicker its like a hidden extra with hyundai!

ive prob missedloads but others will add im sure.

Cheers m8, its Sunday so I havent been able to get quotes but 2moro I'll soon know. I've got a list of things in my head I want to get for tha car and in time I'll hopefully be able to make the right decisions with help from you guys.

hell ive got a Gen1 coupe and i pretend that the clock flicker goes with the beat of my 1200W sub.

only when im drunk though! LOL!

Im gonna stick a crowbar straight through the face of that bas*ard clock one day man i swear....

Hi!......I know insurance is a pain, but be aware that the 1.6 engine, which normally powers a Hyundai Accent to good effect, is absolutely lost in the, much heavier, Gen.I Coupe!.

If you love the looks, but don`t mind being passed by bog-standard 1.6 hatchbacks, go for it!.............however the 2.0 litre car has a far superior performance which just about matches the looks & is hardly any worse interms of fuel-economy!.

Your choice,

I bought an F2 a couple of years ago. It had done 57,000 when I got it, and since then I've had most of the usual Gen1 problems :-

Flickering clock.
Two failed wheel bearings.
Seized rear calipers.

My manifold hasn't cracked yet though.

I expected these sorts of problems. All except the clock are now fixed. I've disconnected the clock now, as I use the clock on the stereo anyway.

I love the car though. I would have bought an F2 Evolution, but I really wanted a black Coupe, so in the end I went for the F2. (I also prefer the BBS-style alloys on the F2 over the five-spokers on the Evolution, but that is just personal taste. The standard-fit tyres were also actually wider on the F2 (225-section, compared to 205-section on the Evolution).

For the small price differences these days between 1.6 and 2.0 models, I would recommend the 2.0 every time.
