i believe there are a few rally prepped ones around.

The main problem - well, not a problem but design lack is that they are a (relativly) long stroke engine, and so arent really high revving cars - more low down torque.... but i spose thats for group N etc

the new genesis coupe has just set a lap record at some place over in the states in the past few days.

there arent many coupe's still used in racing, mainly because technology has developed for the race series whereas hyundai have focussed mainly on styling changes. I do believe that there are still a couple being used and im sure RSD still have theirs flying about somewhere, Hyundaikitcoupe is probably the man to ask though, he seems to follow these things more than others

A Gen3 won the Canadian rally championship in 2006 & 2007.

Rhys Millen's Genesis coupe just won the 2wd class at Pikes Peak at the weekend.

^there's your answer. the new tiburon doesn't have much besides Paul Choiniere 4WD winning the SCCA in the U.S. last in 2008 they placed 24th out of 50, and 5th of 12 in ESPN X games 2007. otherwise, the RD1 was driven by Colin McRae's little bro, and Kenneth Eriksson--both significant early figures in world rallying.

little history:

it all began when in 1997, local australian rally driver Wayne Bell convinced Hyundai contacts to enter the world of rallying. (Note the HCDIII in California was originally designed as a rally car):

He won the Australian rally championship in his Hyundai sponsored Coupe, and his wishes were granted.

In 1998, Hyundai hired McLaren F1 designer Peter Stevens (from Royal College of Art in London) to revamp the Coupe. They entered the F2 WRC in 1998, and in 1999 a red, white, and blue (American Flag) livery was designed to commemorate their 1991 Scoupe Pikes Peak Colorado win. By October, Alister McRae won the Asia-Pacific rally championship in 1999. The car lost victory to Renault by a mere two points because Alister rolled his car on the last stage, around the last corner. He is pictured below walking and frustrated with co-driver David Senior on the stage right after the accident. Hyundai never developed the Coupe farther for three reasons. 1. because by 2000 with the 1996 design was already phasing out, its future was uncertain. 2. they used the coupe as a guide to learn the rules of the WRC and introduce the World Rally Car. the driver duo complained they had limited visibility in the Coupe and the Accent was the "perfect" successor. 3. they had plans to revamp and restructure the company. the WRC program was made to make the company look good. the WRC back then was the way to go. later embezzlement by CEO Chung Mong-koo for funding construction projects in Korea lead to assembly worker strikes and more pay and salary cuts, and eventually in 2003 October before Rally San Remo while in last place on the grid, they illegally pulled out of the WRC resulting in a major lawsuit involving salary contracts between MSD and them. Armin Schwarz sat on the sidelines in disbelief. The Accent didn't do well because it was severely underfunded. The team hated having almost no budget and frequently complained about it. We're talking about a fraction of what top teams cost, so in turn, Hyundai did put up a great fight with the top dogs. The WRC began to fall apart as many teams could no longer afford to compete. the media did not cover Hyundai despite wins, and despite having top drivers. it made no sense to continue sports, but rather to restructure and use the money to focus on quality and brand improvement. BMW is repeating this same thing right now in F1, using the very same excuse for withdrawal.

Here is the trail of legacy they left behind. I miss those days

They really love their coupes in Canada. There's 7 competing in the Canadian Touring Car championship this year.
