They were all imports, usually as an FX spec which was not available in the UK

I thought the FX was the basic version in Ireland?

The reason is that in the UK we pay top dollar for our cars but we expect them to be loaded to justify the price. BMW and Merc used to sell in this country like they do on the continent (1970's), ie if you wanted a BMW you got a BMW if you wanted a stereo in that BMW it was extra, also electric windows etc. They learnt the hard way that if we pay a lot we want a lot. Thats why we got the fully loaded gen1's and 2's as the SE (Special Edition).

very true, they'd sell more if they kept the same models, lower price from not having to do so much design work lol! Makes no sense

the only major difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0 is the head. the bottom ends are the same, and some of the ecu's are mapped for a higher rev limit and run slightly leaner.....
