having had quite a bit of experience modding the coupe,iv decided to write the common sense modding post.how many times have you bought a mod only to find it either doesnt fit or it wont work with summat else you did earlier.so i thought this would be the perfect place for people to write down what they experienced.possible material for a sticky here.....so here's what i know so far

AUDI TT STYLE GEAR BOOT-looks fantastic but what they dont tell you is it wont work properly with a SHORT SHIFTER and looks crap with a short gearstick.its designed to sit up whereas it cant with a short stick!!

STEERING WHEEL COLUMN ADJUSTER-chrome caps look great BUT they dont tell up the plastic end is actually MOLDED on to the metal so you end up hacksawing/dremmeling off and so its NOT reversable.

HANDBRAKE COVER-this is all one piece so if you want to change handbrake cover you have to measure it and cut it off and therefore its not reversable!

OBX RADIATOR HOSES-iv found they are much more flexible when hot hence they constantly leak at the end and just a clip will not stop them you have to seal them too.upping the bar pressure with a different cap probably doesnt help

L.E.D REAR LIGHTS- please note your cruise control will NOT work with LED'S as rear lights.they will need resistors wiring it to make your cruise work.please note this doesnt apply to new lights without led's they wont affect your cruise

TUSCANI MISSION PLATES FROM MIDNIGHT WOLF-if you have it in silver if you put the slightest smallest thing on it it will scratch to hell(ask faz)this also applies to anything done in brushed alloy by midnight wolf including e brake covers

Just trying to think of some of the mods i have done and anything to add. only thing i can think of is the airvents on the centre consol. they have to be carefully sawn off (never managed to pry them off).

Gen 3.5 Dash Upgrade. just check the size for the stereo and mulitgauges because the American ones are a slightly different size and my stereo/multigauges didnt fit (any1 else have that problem. think some sites are now doing European size ones)

OEM Metal Pedals. If you buying these make sure they are right hand drive. The left hadn drive ones wont fit (brake and clutch will, but footrest and acc pedal wont).

Gen 1 & 2
big brake conversion - buy off a member on here, paint up and half an hour later you have massive and better brakes!

usa rear lights - can have big fitment issues, when installing make sure you use a foam filler around the outside otherwise you will get leaks.

Ultrabrite LED reverse lights - dont fit in the hyundai socket on the lights so unless your mounting them seperately dont bother.

ground wire systems - despite alot of people slating them, they really seem to direct all the grounding throughout the car back into the battery, easy to install, bit of a dress-up kit but sorted my grounding issues out.


FSE fuel reg - if you purchase it, take it back before even opening it, not needed at all!

rear light tinting film.........impossible to get flat on a gen3 and creases and just looks crap better to buy tinted lights or tinting spray...........(doesnt include rear fogs they are flat)

any dashboard vinyl kit especially from firms like rvinyl.........they are crap

After having Angel Eyes fitted to your lights make sure when re-fitting the lights you don't trap any wires or you may end up melting something

T badges before fitting check that you have the front one at the front and the back one at the back the pin spacing is different and once stuck in place you'll struggle to get them back off without buggering the adhesive tape.

Fitting a high spoiler make sure that the foam cushoning is supplied with it or it'll cost you an extra £70+ from the stealers and if you decide to fit it without the foam you'll laways have a rattle and the spoiler will rub into your paintwork.

Strut brace, loosen all the bolts and make sure the car has no one in it. fit the 2 ends to the struts and tighten the bolts then tighten the remaining bolts this way the car will handle correctly.

Yeah ive noticed that, i went with a really clear and shiny laquer to finish mine all off with and i get a really annoying glare a) from the sun on the windscreen b)from the dash lights on the top of the surround

either cover it with a matt finish, or sand it down and make it matt afterwards!

Clear Rear Lenses for gen 3 / 3.5
Not a straight replacement.
Lens covers are too large and have to be cut to size.
