Well, got myself a 1999 V Reg Hyundai Coupe 2.0L 16V at the weekend but have a couple of questions;

The car was MOTed a couple of days ago - passed but had a couple of things changed including the front Discs, two front tyres and a bulb someplace (can't remember where the garage said it was though).

Anyway, left the garage all

Car purring away nicely (OK, growling at other cars that came near) then suddenly the ABS light came on. Phoned garage when I got back and they said it would likely "settle down" after a few days after them replacing the discs etc...

Light went out this morning on my way to work but appeared again tonight (and stayed on). So, has anyone else had this problem and DID it settle down (I tried to do a search on here and found one post about the ABS sensor but am completely clueless when it comes to electrics / car maintenance (doesn't help that I don't have the owner manual either to check what the warning light actually means!). Any suggestions?

Second, is there and online owners manual for the 1999 Coupe (the one with lovely leather seats and air con) someplace? I found the electrical and mechanical one (Newton?) but it could be written in Japanese for all it means - schematics of the electrical ABS layout for example huh?! so looking for the basic owners manual (if there is one)...

I don't know of an online owners manual, mate - if you have a specific query, the answer's usually found on here after a quick search. If not, ask away...

ABS issue sounds to me like a dodgy sender unit but it could be a blown fuse... I belive the fuses are labelled, on inside cover of the fuse boxes. I'd willingly check mine and let you know, but I'm 40odd miles from my Coupe at the min

ABS is fuse No. 11 10amp in the dash fuse box (by your right knee when driving)

but I would put money on the garage having disturbed (f**ked up) one of the sensors or disturbed the wiring too the sensor when they did your disks

Unfortunately the site that Mike is sending you to does not have a gen3 manual on it, only gen1/2 so

Go for a manual for your car. Make sure you read the thread before going further or you may not be able to track down your car

Been a while but thought I'd give a quick update.

After much correspondence between myself and garage I bought the car from (back in January), finally got the job done in June!! It was a Front near side D ring that had broken and had to be replaced. Cost £249 so glad I didn't have to fork out the dosh!!

Now though, I'm getting a judder at 40, 50, 60 and 70mph and the front near side disc brake is really, really hot (the alloys are burning to the touch!) so it's heading into the garage again. They say it's not related but given there wasn't any problem with juddering / temperature build up before the D ring was replaced, I find it difficult to believe that it's not connected. Can anyone out there confirm as if it's their fault I'm having problems, they can pay for it!

^ yep, caliper jammed and warped the disc. Brake pad torn to shreds so all three had to be replaced to the tune of £340.

Just hope that's the last of it...as love my wee car [she normally drives like a dream as well].

Really starting to dislike this car!!

Driving home last night and getting a slight judder at 65mph. On slowing down and into first, smell in the cabin of burning rubber. Gets home and checks front wheels and guess what, driver side alloys warm to the touch, passenger side burning hot. ARGHHHHH!!!!

Now, this is AFTER the garage replaced the caliper, disc and pad on the driver side and monkeyed about with the ABS on the left (when the light was on). Beginning to think this car is a turkey as really don't want to have to fork out another £300odd quid for the damn thing if the caliper etc needs replaced on the passenger side as well.

So...back to driving other half's Toyota Celica which has 3x's as many miles on the clock and hasn't had any problems at all...
