hi, i have one of those universal mesh cone filters from a previous car, if i fit this will it do much the same as the snorkus mod? i.e will there be much point in doing the snorkus mod if i put the cone on.

for the time it takes I'd put the universal filter on.

ahhh I see what he means, to put the cone filter on you have to remove the airbox etc. so you don't need to worry about the snorkus mod at all.

Ashley looking at your gallery I presume you've got the 1.6 the same as me.
I've just done the snorkus mod as well BUT looking at the DIY section it shows a resonator. My snorkus just went from the air box to a hole which leads down to the wheel well. Was yours the same i.e no resonator?
Basically this was the only part there that I took off. Is it the same?

Perhaps what I cant understand is why this mod would add a few BHP as taking air directly in now from the engine bay instead of down below where i presume it's cooler

For example looking at a CAI at performance coupe



Thats leading down to where the air was coming in anyway before removing the snorkus
Only difference with that CAI is that it goes straight to the engine and not into the air box first and then on to the engine.

I know I might sound daft questioning it but that the way I learn.

I believe its only the Gen 3 onwards where you actualy have to start messing about removing bolts & whatnot. Theres no way I could have got mine out without moving the air filter box

Just did this mod today on my gen3 and put in a kn air filter but can some just clarify that i have pulled out the right thing lol. Only required to take out the 2 fuse box bolts and 1 airbox bolt (closest to the snorkus) and was able to pull it out with a bit of muscle.




I now have this hole in the car, is it ok to leave it there or will i need to cover it up?




And is this got anything to do with the mod? What exactly does this do?

You have removed the right thing & you have to leave that hole open or you're restrict the air flow to your engine.

Cant remember seeing anything like that last pic in mine though. I'll have a check at some point if someone else doesnt clarify.

Thats the resonator isn't it (pretty sure Kel pointed it out when he did my lights) you can take it out or leave it in, it makes no difference

So is the resonator just the top part which can clip off or is it also the bit under that clip off part?

Glyn best bet would to just replace the stock wit the k&n and see what difference it makes. If nothing major then give the snorkus the boot and see what difference it makes.

I def hear a nicer roar from the engine when i drive and i do feel a slight improvement in pick up.
