hey guys

just put a deposit down on a coupe this afternoon and going to pick her up tommorow lunchtime.

its an old gen 1 but looks great, and drives great too. once im finished with it too it will look even better lol.

Any reccomendation what i should do first on it?

i need to replace the spoiler as its got quite few scuff marks on it, but probably stick with a standard gen 1 one to be honest, gonna have look round now at some. but other than that im not sure what i should do to it first so any ideas would be very welcomed. oh its all standard on there ar the mo j ust so yous know :)

If you need to replace the spoiler (not just repray) then an F2 evo one (rare) or sharkfin (even rarer) would be the ones to go for.

Sorry mate - but what planet are you from???? :lol

They all benefit from an induction kit of some sort, the OE induction system is sooo restrictive. I'd say get an SRI setup, (eBay £35) - will sharpen up throttle response and release a few horses.

There are a few exhaust options to look at, I had to swap mine when the manifold cracked. OBX and XSPower make 4-2-1 exhaust headers and Motoria do the rest of the system - you can import the whole lot from the states from SSA Autochrome and it'll work out cheaper. Gains are in the region of 20odd hp, plus better drivability.

Better plugs and sports leads will improve things (engine wise) too - plus the handling mods like strutbraces and better suspension etc.

Then there is the more extreme tuning stuff such as performance cam shafts, aftermarket ECU's etc to play with - not to mention turbo and supercharger kits etc. Depends how far you want to go and how fat the old wallet is, TBH...

There are plenty of different bolt-on mods, of the bumper, alloy wheel and bodykit variety too - in fact theres a few items in the for sale section at the moment, bumpers and stuff like that.

And thats without playing around fitting Angel eyes, tinting lights etc.

Should keep you busy, mate :thumbup

lol at Daz ... I'm going to do my 1.6 approach, you can also do stuff like re-painting the interior, the dask and door panels etc. looks great if done right ... you can also dress the engine up a bit, paint the engine cover, silicone hoses etc.

to add to Rik's comment I'd recommend getting the front and rear strut bar (I swear it helps in cornering) and for the springs then the Eibach Pro Kit springs OR you could get the MeisterR Coilovers that are being sold by MeisterR in traders section atm.

then there is subtle stuff ... maybe LED interior lighting etc.

(There is also rebadging ... you could make it into a Tiburon and go the american way ... also, go to rdtiburon.com and check out there forum, especially the DIY section, some good stuff in there ... also, check our step by step guides on the forum and main site, just so you can look at improving the gear change as it makes a massive difference in driving the car)

God there's a lot you can do to Gen1's and 2's these days lol :rollin

lol at hig who thinks he owns a gen3............ :rollin :rollin

there is'nt a huge ammount available for a gen1.......i know i had one when when they were making tuning stuff for them.the trouble is it took alot of aftermarket parts makers a while to catch on hyundai were gonna be a reasonable market-even now compared to cars like subaru's the list of mods available for hyundais pales into insignificance.finally people see that folks wanna tune hyundais

have to agree with hig about strut bars and stuff they are availble and all worth having and these days you can do loads with lighting!

Daz, I've pretty much listed what I have done with mine ... and you can do pretty much the exact same things on a Gen1 as you can do on a Gen2, so I know he can do what is on that list pretty easily.

Yeah, sorry Daz - I have to disagree, mate... I could've spent a small fortune on ours if I'd had the money, and thats not just replacing the rusty bits either. :lol

I know there isn't a great deal of chrome, alloy or other stick-on bits you can buy, or a great choice in bodykits etc - but there is plenty to keep the owner occupied on the tuning, minor styling and handling front...

I did!

Gen 1's there are so much about, its just that it depends what approach do you want to take?

1. Looks
2. Sound.
3. Performance
4. Handling.

Theyre the top 4 that spring to my head, if youre a big fan of one or two of those, then you can focus on that, but there are some definate things you HAVE to do

1. See the ebay finds section - theres evo bumpers for sale through links on ebay
2. Induction kit
4. Keep modding :lol

Lovely cars
